Masnach Deg - Aberystwyth - Fairtrade was setup in March 2004 to provide information about Fairtrade and to promote the sale and use of Fairtrade products in Aberystwyth.
The first aim was to gain Fairtrade Status for Aberystwyth following the example of Garstang and a growing number of other communities. The Fairtrade Foundation has defined the FIVE GOALS that have to be achieved.
These were met during the next 12 months and Aberystwyth’s Fairtrade Status was declared on St. David’s Day, 1st March 2005. This placed the town among the first 100 Fairtrade communities in the whole of the UK.
